introvert hiding face

Hello,

it's been a long few months since my last post, and that is simply due to two things,

1 My seemingly never ending pile of to do's in my job search

2 My Introverted thought process

The second one is a doozy that I've battled with my whole life.

For those that don't know what an introverted personality is, we're pretty easy to spot (or ignore as it feels like to us :)

We are the wallflowers, the 'shy' ones, the selective mutes, the 'dull' people (which isn't really true) but allow me to continue and I'll elaborate.

The reason we come across like this to the outside world is because we spend most of our time in our own heads, we live there, it's our own personal virtual reality.

And can be a mess.

Imagine one of those surreal Salvador Dali paintings, yep, that's the inside of my mind.

When I was at college I studied Carl Jung who was a Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who founded analytical psychology. Since then there has been many studies into personality which has drawn a number of common conclusions, one of which is that introversion can be sub divided in further types.

Myers-Briggs came up with 16 personality types, 8 of which are introvert.

  • ISTP

  • ISFJ

  • ISFP

  • INFJ

  • INFP

  • INTJ

  • INTP

Introverts love to be alone.

They enjoy tasks that they can do alone. Quietness is bliss, there are no interruptions and no-one to disagree with, no-one to annoy them.

Rapidly drained.

It doesn't take long for a introvert to 'want to go home' while out at a social gathering, that's if they ever get out of the house to begin with. Not to be confused with extroverts who exert so much energy talking and socialising all day, who then complain they are tired at the end of it. Introverts get tired at the mere idea of socialising, its feels like its way too much effort for them and it is a genuine battle to put themselves in a social situation to begin with.

Prefer one on one social interactions.

Large groups are overwhelming for introverts. If you are chosen by an introvert to have all their time and attention, you are considered very special. Loyalty is extremely important to them as they value the energy they have and reserve it for spending with only the best, most time worthy people.

Intelligence is highly rated

Introverts hate small talk, it's an unproductive, pointless and meaningless way to spend ones life to an introvert, so conversations are expected be of a high calibre. An introvert may not necessarily have an IQ of 220 but they demand to be challenged and you might be surprised when they do talk, at the array of topics they are aware of.
